MGM+

The Institute

Season One     2025

There are things going on here that you wouldn’t believe…

Stephen King is one of our most prolific authors, and any adaptation of his work deserves the blockbuster treatment. That principle is exactly what our team kept in mind when designing the key art for the MGM+ Original Series The Institute, based on the King book of the same name. We approached the work from a cinematic lens, evoking the compositional stylings of Drew Struzan while using colors and textures that felt contemporary and at home in the streaming landscape.

This approach allowed us the opportunity to tell a complete story, and use tone to explore the show’s complex thematics. The large, looming faces of the three leads rise above a dark and mysterious building (known as “The Institute”), while foreboding silhouettes of children scatter the foreground. The art as a whole emits a sense of danger, which functions in stark contrast with the look in the eyes of the show’s lead (played by Joe Freeman), which emanates hope and determination.
